After news broke that Gavin And Stacey is returning for a one-off Christmas special, it looks like it’s set a precedent. Will Mellor has now revealed that they’re working on a Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps one-off.
Taking to Instagram Will Mellor, who played Gaz in the show, dropped the bombshell.
In the clip, Will says: “Alright people, sorry I have not been on for a while, I have been waiting for something to tell you, some news, you know what I mean?
“Recently, since Two Pints came back, it is on at 11 o’clock every night on Gold, they are showing every episode, people have been messaging me about how much they miss the show and how much it was part of their growing up.
“Saying ‘please bring it back for a special or do something’.
He continued: “Well, I have been listening and reading your messages and I think we are going to get a Two Pints special off the ground.
“I spoke to Susan Nickson (the show’s creator) and we are hopefully going to try and get a Two Pints special going. Just to say thank you for all the support of people who love the show and got behind it.
“Watch this space, just got to dot the ‘i’s and cross the ‘t’s and hopefully a Two Pints special will be on the way.”
Fans were quick to comment, saying: “YESSSS!! please say it’s with the original cast though, as brilliant as the last couple of series’ were, the newer characters just didn’t have the same feeling as the old cast so hopefully everyone can return!”
Another added: “This is amazing news! Hope it’s another musical special!”
The rest of the cast included Gaz’s girlfriend, Donna Henshaw, played by Natalie Casey, and the best friend of Jonny Keogh, played by Ralf Little.
Sheridan Smith, who played Janet, will presumably be getting involved with the one-off special. Especially since she recently confirmed that she’s not been approached to star in the Gavin and Stacey Christmas episode.
The 38-year-old actress played Smithy’s (James Corden) sister, Rudi. Corden and Sheridan were in a relationship for two years after meeting on the set of the show. Sheridan has insisted that the pair have remained friends.
However, she will not be returning to reprise her character.
She appeared on Radio 2 with host Zoe Ball on Monday (10th June) and was asked if she was appearing in the show, she said: “I wish. No, I’m not going to be in it. I don’t think, anyway.”
Presenter Zoe then said they should start a petition to get her on the episode, saying that that the scene where Rudi and Smithy rap Kanye West’s verse from American Boy is one of the show’s most iconic scene.
Sheridan agreed: “I could do my rap again. I love it.”
Gavin and Stacey was last seen on our screens in 2010, but recently Corden tweeted that he’s “hugely excited” to return to the series. Coming Christmas Day, he shared a picture of the script.
