The Sinner Is Officially Returning For Season Three And The Plot Is Wild

The ‘Sinner’ takes it all

The Sinner Season 3

Harry Ambrose is back for more as the first details of The Sinner Season 3 emerge online. While we’ve known for a while that Bill Pullman is returning as the bearded and brilliant Ambrose, fans now know what he’ll be up to in the next batch of episodes.

Dropping on Netflix usually a few months after its USA Network premiere, the streaming giant has undoubtedly helped boost The Sinner‘s ratings. Well, Pullman’s stellar turn as the troubled Ambrose is also a winner.

According to Variety, this could be Ambrose’s darkest case yet. But yeah, doesn’t every show say that at the start of a new season? Still, the first plot synopsis should be enough to keep Sinnerphiles happy.

The site reveals how Season 3 “follows Detective Harry Ambrose as he begins a routine investigation of a tragic car accident on the outskirts of Dorchester, in upstate New York. Ambrose uncovers a hidden crime that pulls him into the most dangerous and disturbing case of his career.”

Along for the ride this time, American Horror Story‘s Matt Bomer is Jamie — the man who relies on Ambrose after the aforementioned crash. Another new addition is Sharp Object‘s Chris Messina as one of Jamie’s pals. Playing his college friend Nick Haas, it’s unclear how either man connects to the main story of The Sinner.

Based on Petra Hammesfahr’s crime novel, The Sinner was originally conceived as a close-ended series. However, the popularity of the show soon led to season two. Bearing in mind The Sinner was nominated for two Golden Globes in 2018, it’s easy to see why USA Network wants to keep the story going.

There were criticisms that Season 2 didn’t quite live up to the hype of The Sinner‘s freshman outing. Maybe it’s because Jessica Biel wasn’t there as the scene-stealing Cora Tannetti? Although Biel is still part of The Sinner as a producer, she’s remaining tight-lipped on whether we’ll see Cora again.

Even as USA Network faces a change to its scheduling thanks to Mr. Robot and Suits coming to an end, The Sinner proves to be one of its most popular exports and could be back for a fourth season if the critical acclaim continues. Find out more when The Sinner eventually returns to our screens.
