Disney is giving us a full case of Hakuna matata as the first full trailer for Jon Favreau’s The Lion King has just dropped.
15 years after we tuned in for the 1994 classic and were blown away by Elton John’s soundtrack, Favreau is back to put a live-action twist on the charming cartoon.
There’s an all-star cast that should help The Lion King follow in the footsteps of The Jungle Book and Beauty and the Beast, as well as the upcoming Aladdin. Starring Donald Glover as Simba, Beyoncé as Nala, Chiwetel Ejiofor will play Scar, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa and Billy Eichner as Timon.
We’re heading back to Pride Rock as Glover’s Simba learns all about the circle of life. Adding to the star power of The Lion King, James Earl Jones will once again reprise his legendary role as Mufasa and teach his son the ways of the world.
With new songs alongside the old classics, The Lion King should appeal to adults and kids alive. Who knows, maybe Favreau will come back to do a live-action version of The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride?
The hype surrounding The Lion King is huge, proving that all these years later, we just can’t wait to be king.
