Outraged customers around the United Kingdom are voicing their concern that the classic gingerbread man has been renamed as a gingerbread person to more fairly represent different genders.
The Co-op is launching a gender-neutral gingerbread person and is asking the general public for help in naming them.
This is no longer a (gingerbread) man’s world as the high street supermarket shows off a redesigned biscuit sporting what looks to be a pair of grey dungarees.
The Manchester Evening News reports that Co-op is putting its finishing touches to the design, giving cookie connoisseurs just a glimpse of what’s to come. Instead of the people actually suggesting gender-neutral names, the comments section instead became a free-for-all of angry protests:
it’s a freaking gingerbread man ooops sorry gingerbread person it doesn’t need a gender neutral name all of this PC rubbish needs to stop— Awesome Nerd (@AwesomeNerd01) April 10, 2019
@coopuk, instead of touching on an “issue” that quite frankly isn’t important, don’t you think it’s a better idea to focus your energy on reducing plastic waste from your stores like other supermarkets are finally getting on board with? https://t.co/5OWwrOFDgN

How do you know the gingerbread person doesn’t identify as a table?😂

If you hear someone order a gingerbread person , shoot them a look, tut and shake your head, thus conveying your rage at the stupidity of the world

The site’s description reads: “Our Food team is adding the final touches to a new Co-op gingerbread person, but they’ve yet to come up with a name.”
“They’d like members to join in and suggest a fitting name for our new little biscuity friend.”
Consumers are also told how the “gingerbread fellow” will be getting seasonal outfits for the likes of Halloween and Christmas.
If anyone gets over the news and decides to actually take part, they have between now and May 1 to come up with names. What do you think, does the Co-op take the biscuit with this one?
