The First Reviews Are In For John Krasinski’s A Quiet Place Part II

Is this sequel going quietly?

A Quiet Place II

Silence please, the first reviews of John Krasinski’s A Quiet Place Part II are in. It’s been two years since Krasinki’s directorial debut blew us all away and the sensory horror became a huge hit for Paramount Pictures. Now, the Abbott family is back and moving away from the farm for the next chapter.

While a sequel was always likely, horror fans were worried the studio might milk the franchise for all its worth and ruin the first movie’s legacy. With A Quiet Place Part II‘s general release just a matter of days away, the first reviews are in.

Following the dramatic sacrifice of Krasinski’s Lee Abbott at the end of A Quiet Place, it’s up to Emily Blunt’s Evelyn to lead the kids to safety and head on the road. Joining them this time are Dark Knight favourite Cillian Murhpy and Guardians of the Galaxy‘s Djimon Hounsou. It’s a much grander affair in Part II, and it looks like the gamble has paid off for Krasinski. Here’s what the experts have to say.

Illuminerdi’s Joe Deckelmeier wrote: “The movie is over and my body is still tense. Kudos to the whole cast for making me feel every emotion with their acting.”

IndieWire’s Kate Erbland mused: “A worthy, world-expanding followup that builds on the original and finds its own thrills, chills, and emotions in the process.”

ComicBook’s Chris Killian said: “The use of sound in #AQuietPlace Part 2 is still so vital. In what could easily have been a retread, @johnkrasinski finds unbelievably creative ways to keep the movie’s niche from getting stale.”

CinemaBlend’s Sean O’Connell added: “How does @johnkrasinski already have Spielberg-level chops?? #AQuietPlace 2 is fantastic, and deserves to be a MASSIVE hit. Finds exciting ways to further explore this terrifying environment, and is bigger, but still TENSE AS HELL.”

Fandango’s Erik Davis wrote: “Honestly, just as tense and terrifying as the first one. There are some sequences in this film that are a masterclass in suspense.”

Finally, Rotten Tomatoes’ Joel Meares concluded: “Kudos to John Krasinski and co: #AQuietPlace Part II delivers. Millicent Simmonds is my new Ripley — owns the film. (And yes, some great scares.)”

Basically, it’s looking pretty great. A Quiet Place Part II is tracking for a $60 million opening — which massively outshines its predecessor. Only recently, Krasinski teased the idea of a third movie to Total Film Magazine. He told the site, “I set up a couple of tiny little Easter eggs in II that not only explain more about I, but would allow for more mythology.”

However, it’s from a dead-cert. The 40-year-old added, “But, being a Boston Catholic, I can’t be like, ‘Yeah, of course, there’ll be a third!’ No, not at all.”

Discussing where A Quiet Place could go after the next movie, Krasinski reiterated, “The good news is that the studio and I are on the same page in that this isn’t one of those franchises where we keep pumping them out if they make money.

“I think we’ve proven that this is an original idea that is really beloved by people in a way that… I don’t want to break that promise to people.” So, come back in a few years and see whether we’re doing a roundup of reactions to A Quiet Place Part III.
