Taylor Swift Fans Are Royally Kicking Off On Twitter

It could be time for a ‘Swift’ exit

Swifties (Taylor Swift fans) are threatening to boycott future ceremonies of the Grammys because the pop diva was apparently snubbed from this year’s awards.

With Swift’s “Reputation” being one of the biggest album releases in living memory, some were left confused and frustrated at why she was only nominated for one award at the 61st annual Grammy Awards.

Although the star-studded event included the likes of Cardi B, Post Malone, Miley Cyrus, Dolly Parton and Katy Perry, Taylor sat this one out to support boyfriend Joe Alwyn at the BAFTAs.

Swift was nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album of the year but lost out to Ariana Grande, who won her first Grammy with “Sweetener”. Instead of taking the loss gracefully, Swifties sharpened their pitchforks and headed to Twitter to express their dismay.

Although some were just a bit upset, others suggested that we all switch off from watching the Grammys if Swift is going to be shunned in future.

Fans pointed out that “Reputation” earned itself quite a ‘reputation’ but was effectively shut out of all other categories. With the album hitting No.1 in 13 countries, many had expected a big win for Swift. As well as its chart-topping success, “Reputation” sold 1.216 million copies in its first week and was the USA’s best-selling album of 2017.

It’s almost the reverse of 2009’s MTV VMA debacle. Everyone remembers when Kanye West made his feelings clear that Beyoncé should’ve won Video of the Year Award instead of Swift with “You Belong With Me”. Kanye is probably smiling somewhere that Swift didn’t sweep the board with “Reputation”.

It’s interesting that it’s not only fans that could avoid the Grammys. This year, Drake decided to sit out the high-profile ceremony because he felt alienated”, Lorde fell out with executives, and even Grande pulled out because of a row with producers over her set list — whoops!

Thankfully, Swift seemed to have a pretty great evening elsewhere. Joe Alwyn is known for starring in The Favourite, which scooped a tasty seven BAFTA awards. Swift celebrated her bae’s success on Instagram and didn’t look too phased that she won’t be adding to her Grammy collection this year.

In the past, Swift has been nominated for 32 Grammys and taken home an impressive 10. While plenty of people were happy that Ariana broke her Grammy virginity, Swifties were shocked and saddened. Will you be tuning in for next year’s Grammys or has the Swift situation taken the long-running awards ceremony too far?
