After years and years of speculation, and even one UK Drag Ambassador compeititon that was held here we FINALLY have our confirmation. RuPaul’s UK Drag Race is officially coming next year, and it’s going to be shown on BBC3. Oh how BLOODY EXCITING!

The exciting news was announced by World Of Wonder (the production company behind the show extravangaza) on their official Instagram account, and also via an article in The Sun.

Creator Rupaul Charles told the publication: “I am beyond excited to celebrate the massive charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent of the Queen’s queens. And before anyone asks, yes, we would be thrilled to have Meghan Markle join us, as we are already preparing a ‘Royal-Mother-To-Be’ runway challenge.”

A TV source said: “This is a massive coup for the Beeb as lots of other UK channels wanted this show. It will follow the exact same format as the American version with British twists and some famous guests.

“It will be filmed in London and casting directors will be searching for the best drag artists Britain has to offer – there’ll be a huge budget for costumes and production and bosses are hoping that a star is born. It’s really exciting for everyone involved and is expected to draw a lot of new fans to the franchise.

“RuPaul has a cult following so it’s massive news.”

The 8-Part series is looking for ‘home-grown UK Queens’, and will take place in the New Year. How exciting!

Recently it seems RuPaul’s Drag Race star Gia Gunn isn’t feeling the love for show creator, RuPaul Charles, after she was caught posting tweets that appeared to throw shade at the host.

A short clip was posted promoting the upcoming All Stars Season 3, showing the 10 competitors singing a popular Christmas carol with new lyrics to reflect the show, with the final line being: “Yule love us all, all hail RuPaul.”

However, in a now-deleted tweet, Gia appeared to lash out at Mama Ru, saying: “Can’t even be in the commercial for your own show… sad.”

In a tweet that remains on her page, Gia added: “I don’t hail to those that don’t do the same in return.”

Willam Belli, a former Drag Race contestant who is also known to have had beef wit RuPaul in the past responded to Gia’s deleted post with the comment: “Attagirl.”

RuPaul’s Drag Race fans will be pleased to find out that not only is a new season coming out, but you’re also getting treated to a Christmas special.

Breaking the exciting news to their fans via their social media pages, the RuPaul’s Drag Race crew announced: “Get into the holiday spirit, henny! 🎄 We’re searching for the first ever #DragRace Xmas Queen! ❄️ Don’t miss the RuPaul’s Drag Race Holi-slay Spectacular December 7th at 8/7c on @vh1!”

The one-off special is going to put queens from Drag Race her’story through a series of festive challenges, and OF COURSE Todrick Hall is returning to choreograph an incredible dance. Better yet, at the end, one queen will be crowned the Drag Race Xmas Queen. Personal opinion here, but MAYBE SHANGELA WILL FINALLY GET HER PLACE IN THE DRAG HALL OF FAME THAT SHE TRULY DESERVES.

Here’s the list of the queens that will be competing, and happily for me Shangela is definitely a part of that list.

  • Eureka O’Hara (Season 9: 11th Place, Season 10: Runner-Up)
  • Jasmine Masters (Season 7: 12th Place)
  • Kim Chi (Season 8: Runner-Up)
  • Latrice Royale (Season 4: 4th Place, All Stars 1: 7th Place)
  • Mayhem Miller (Season 10: 10th Place)
  • Shangela (Season 2: 12th Place, Season 3: 6th Place, All Stars 3: Runner-Up)
  • Kylie Sonique Love (Season 2: 9th Place)
  • Trixie Mattel (Season 7: 6th Place, All Stars 3: Winner)

However, some fans lashed out at the fact that Trixie Mattel was chosen to be part of the line-up, as she has already won All Stars 3, and viewers believe that it should be ‘more open for people who haven’t won anything yet’ – like *cough* Shangela *cough*. Can you tell who my favourite queen is yet?

RuPaul’s Drag Race: Holi-Slay Special airs on VH1 in the US on Friday, December 7 at 8pm ET, and there is no clear announcement for when and where it will be shown in the UK.
