TI shocked the world just the other day when he announced that he went to the gynaecologist with his 18-year-old daughter to check if her ‘hymen was still intact’ and that she is in fact, still a virgin. If you want to know more about that, check further down in the article.
However, now his daughter Deyjah Harris has made her thoughts known about the fact her hymen was turned into a public debate by ceremoniously unfollowing her father on Instagram.
Speaking on the Ladies Like Us podcast about sex education for his children, TI claimed: “Not only have we had the conversation, we have yearly trips to the gynaecologist to check her hymen. Yes, I go with her … I will say, as of her 18th birthday, her hymen is still intact.”
The practise in itself has been condemned by the World Health Organisation, who labelled it ‘humiliating and traumatic’. TI also revealed that he understood that the hymen can be broken via other methods that didn’t include sexual intercourse (such as horse riding, sports etc,) however in comments that were then edited out of the podcast, he reportedly said
“[The doctor said] Well, I just want you to know that there are other ways besides sex that the hymen can be broken like bike riding, athletics, horseback riding and just other forms of athletic physical activity’. So I say, ‘Look, Doc, she don’t ride no horses, she don’t ride no bike, she don’t play no sports. Just check the hymen, please, and give me back my results expeditiously.’”
In 2018, tests of this kind where condemned by the World Health Organisation (WHO), UN Human Rights and UN Women, and at the time they released a statement saying: “This medically unnecessary, and often times painful, humiliating and traumatic practice must end … WHO states that there is no evidence that either method can prove whether a woman or girl has had vaginal intercourse or not.”
Also I’m sorry that TI daughter had to have her hymen be a news article today. I can’t imagine how mortified she must be.— Kale Nelson (@KaleNelson_) November 6, 2019
A message for TI and the men who agree with him: you don’t own your daughter. Her sexuality is not yours to police. And your obsession with her sex life is pretty perverted, quite frankly.— Anne (@ProfaneFeminist) November 6, 2019
