The popularity of dating shows in recent years has skyrocketed, thanks to the likes of First Dates, Dinner Date and not so much Naked Attraction.
Perhaps is down to viewers being fascinated by how humans interact with each other, especially on a potentially romantic level. More likely though, we’re just waiting for people to embarrass themselves for our twisted entertainment.
It’s unsurprising then that Netflix are set to enter the market of dating shows, with their own original offering Dating Around.
Each episode will witness the “flirtations and fails” as one real-life single navigates five blind dates. The mission: Find one match worthy of a second date.
The show promises it won’t shy away from the more awkward situations of blind dates. The trailer teases toe-curling conversations about past drug use and ridiculous sexual innuendos.
“I hope you’re not a serial killer,” says one hopeful as she raises a toast to her date.
Intertwined in all that we’re sure will be genuinely heartwarming moments. We hope so anyway.
The most striking thing about the trailer is the clearly high budget backing the show. The whole thing looks like it could be a well shot movie as opposed to the regular dating shows we’ve become used to.
Of course, Netflix will drop Dating Around on Valentine’s Day (February 14 for those of us who choose to ignore it).
