Netflix’s next big show could be just around the corner. Apparently, the streaming giant will adapt Karin Slaughter’s Pieces of Her book into an eight-part series.
As Netflix continues to roll out its original content with new releases like Russian Doll and You, the streaming service has announced another potentially massive hit.
While it was only released last year, Pieces of Her is already a best-selling thriller. Slaughter’s story follows a woman called Andrea Oliver, who has her life changed forever on her 31st birthday when a violent incident shocks her to the core.
Pieces of Her‘s synopsis reads: “When a Saturday afternoon trip to the mall with her mother suddenly explodes into violence, an adrift young woman’s conception of her mother is forever changed.”
According to Deadline, Pieces of Her will have an all-female creative team of executive producers that includes Homeland‘s Lesli Linka Glatter, House of Cards‘ Charlotte Stoudt, and Big Little Lies‘ Bruna Papandrea.
Stoudt will write and serve as showrunner while Papandrea’s production company, Made Up Stories, is behind the series.
Considering Made Up Stories is also known for Big Little Lies and Gone Girl, it’s no surprise Pieces of Her will be female focussed. The company is committed to enabling female actors, directors, and writers.
Pieces of Her has already been likened to The Sinner. The Jessica Biel-led thriller caused a stir with its first season back in 2017 and was nominated for two Golden Globes. If Pieces of Her can get anywhere near that kind of attention, Netflix could be on to a winner.
Hoping to follow in the footsteps of adapting Caroline Kepnes’ You, Pieces of Her joins Sarah Pinborough’s recently acquired Behind Her Eyes adaptation. With a second series of You already on the way, Netflix continues to push for its female-first programming.
While there’s no casting news for Pieces of Her, there’s been a big boom of Hollywood stars making a jump from movies to TV. There’s also no release date for Pieces of Her, meaning there’s still plenty of time for you to pick up a copy of Slaughter’s book.
