Liam Payne has confessed that he once considered ‘taking his own life’ during his time in One Direction.
He made the heartbreaking admission during the show Ant Middleton And Liam Payne: Straight Talking (according to The Sun), saying that fame ‘very nearly killed him’.
“For some certain circumstances I’m quite lucky to be here still,’ he said on . “There are times when that level of loneliness and people getting into you every day, it’s like, “When will this end?” That’s almost nearly killed me a couple of times.”
When asked whether he had ever experienced suicidal thoughts, Liam said: “Yeah, when I’ve been in a bad place. It’s one hundred per cent, you know. There’s no point denying it — it’s definitely been on the menu a couple of times in my life.”
“There’s only one thing you control within that situation and that is you. Just do today. Get on with that bit and then there’ll be another hurdle in a few months, a few weeks or maybe even the next day.’”
The singer has always been pretty candid when talking about his struggles with mental health, once telling Men’s Health: “When you’re doing hundreds and hundreds of [concerts] and it’s the same 22 songs at the same time every single day, even if you’re not happy, you’ve got to go out there,’ he said.
“It’s almost like putting the Disney costume on before you step up on stage and underneath the Disney costume I was pissed quite a lot of the time because there was no other way to get your head around what was going on.”
