Got Buns Hun? Kenan And Kel Are Planning Good Burger 2

Don’t ‘flip’ out, but Kenan and Kel are officially looking into making Good Burger 2. As a spin-off from the comedy sketch on Nickelodeon’s All ThatGood Burger became a cult classic that can STILL cut the mustard.

For anyone who hasn’t seen Brian Robbins’ 1997 movie — where were you in the ’90s? — get ready for a lesson in burger building. Not since Spongebob became a fry cook at the Krusty Krab have burger joints been so relevant to pop culture.

Speaking on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, one GB fans asked Kenan Thompson if he’d like to make a sequel. The Saturday Night Live star revealed, “We’ve been talking about it for a long time. We’ve had meetings about it, so it’s in the higher powers’ hands cause we’ve both said that we’re down to do it.”

Good Burger starred Thompson as a high school bum called Dexter Reed. After crashing his mum’s car and being forced to repay the costs, Dexter had to work at a fast food restaurant and met the inept Ed (Kel Mitchell). Also starring Carmen Electra and Shaquille O’Neal as himself, Good Burger is a movie that is as good now as it was 21 years go.

You might remember that strange urban legend from 2006 that Kel had died, but thankfully, he is alive and well, still planning Good Burger 2. There were also rumours that Kenan and Kel’s own ‘beef’ forced them to part ways, but a Jimmy Fallon reunion where they reprised their roles as Dexter and Ed in 2015 proved everything was still fine.

Thompson is the longest-serving cast member on SNL, but that hasn’t stopped most of us remembering from his days tied to Nickelodeon. While Mitchell has struggled to find much fame outside the orange soda-swilling Kel, a Good Burger sequel could be just the career revival he needs. Come on, if Hasselhoff can do it after Baywatch.

Thompson’s words echo what Mitchell said earlier this year when he told BuzzFeed “there’s something in the water”. Also with the book sequel, Good Burger 2 Go, being published in 1998, the movie has already been handed to them on a paper plate.

While Good Burger 2 is probably a way off yet, I’m hoping it’ll get a back-to-back release with the LeBron James-led Space Jam 2 for the ultimate ’90s experience. All that’s left to say is “Welcome to Good Burger, the home of the Good Burger, can I take your order?”
