Warning: Game of Thrones spoilers ahead
While we’re still reeling from the frankly jaw-dropping events of Game of Thrones‘ penultimate episode, the dust is settling on the Battle of King’s Landing. One of the few survivors of Queen Daenerys Targaryen’s fiery rampage was Arya Stark…or was it?
As the plucky Stark assassin rode off to safety on a white horse, some fans are convinced this is was actually a metaphor for the fan-favourite’s tragic demise.
Surprising literally no one, “The Bells” saw Dany take on the mantra of her father and fully evolve into the Mad Queen.
Although she didn’t technically blast the King’s Landing capital with Wildfire, her attack on Drogon caused the city’s supplies of that green gloop to go up in flames.
The idea of Arya’s death comes from the last-minute of the white horse she rode off on. Fans have put together the pieces and are convinced this is the same horse we saw get blasted to pieces at the start of the episode.
When the frankly useless Golden Company stood outside King’s Landing, eagle-eyed fans noticed that Harry Strickland’s white horse ended up a twisted mess. While it’s entirely possible there is more than one white horse trotting around King’s Landing, some are convinced Arya’s rescue horse is Strickland’s dead one.
There’s a whole Reddit thread on it, where people are musing that Arya is already dead. One fan wrote, “Yeah, I’m pretty sure Arya is dead too. She got all burnt up and a building fell on her. They made a point of showing us the death of the horse and the countless deaths of Arya. And yet they both rise from the ashes. If this isn’t some lord of light shit, I’m gonna be pissed.”
It’s true that Arya had a pretty rough time in the episode. Even if she survived being crushed by rocks — unlike Jaime and Cersei — she looked in pretty bad shape. In reality, I think we’re probably going to see Arya ride up to Daenerys and become the Queenslayer.
I’m no genius, but considering Arya is very much a presence in the final episode trailer, I’m guessing she’s alive and well. We could be wrong, I mean it would be one hell of a twist to have Ghost Arya round off the ice and fire epic.
