Fans Lash Out At Disney For ‘Excluding’ Black Actor From Endgame Poster

This year’s Avengers: Endgame promises to be the movie event to end all movie events as it unites the best and the brightest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, the Russo Brothers’ upcoming movie is coming under fire for forgetting to include The Walking Dead‘s Danai Gurira.

As well as a brand new trailer, Disney unveiled a flashy poster that includes the ‘surviving’ members of the Avengers.

The world’s highest-grossing franchise is still playing coy when it comes to ‘dusted’ heroes like Black Panther, Spider-Man, Bucky Barnes, and most of the Guardians of the Galaxy. It means that the first Endgame poster only focuses on those who are still kicking around in the MCU.

Although Gurira was included in the all-star poster, Disney relegated her name from top billing. Unsurprisingly, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, and Scarlett Johansson all saw their name in lights. Sadly, despite Gurira’s reasonably prominent placing on the poster, her name appears right at the bottom.

It didn’t take fans long to notice that Gurira’s name only appears alongside the likes of Jon Favreau and Benedict Wong — who don’t even feature on the poster. Posting on Twitter, people were less than impressed that the black actor was MIA.

Sure, Gurira might not be the most important member of the team, but many were left confused by the apparent mistake. Considering Bradley Cooper only provides the voice of Rocket Raccoon and still appeared above Gurira, it’s a puzzling state of affairs.

Thankfully, it didn’t take Disney long to take note of the blunder. In a matter of hours, the poster was re-released with Gurira appearing between Karen Gillan and Bradley Cooper. The official Marvel Twitter announced the new to fans and admitted she “should have been up there all this time”.

There isn’t long until Avengers: Endgame comes roaring into cinemas and we get to see Gurira spin her spear as Okoye. Presuming she survives the events of the supersized sequel, fans can also expect to see her pop up in Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther 2. Consider Disney well and truly told!
