Get ready to have your worlds to be ‘rocked’ as Dwayne Johnson teases he could be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Coming a long way from his Scorpion King and Tooth Fairy days, Johnson is currently one of Hollywood’s highest-paid stars. Thanks to his role as Luke Hobbs in the Fast and Furious franchise, Johnson has secured roles in the likes of Baywatch, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, and the Worlds of DC’s upcoming Black Adam.
Now, it looks like the 46-year-old could be one of the MCU’s biggest signing as he hints at his next career move. After the box office behemoth that is Avengers: Endgame, Johnson took to Instagram to congratulate directors Russo Brothers and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige for their hard work.
While it started as just one comic book movie fan congratulating the MCU on another record-breaking job, Johnson rounded off by saying he’s got a meeting with Feige soon. He could be joking, but if he’s not, we could see The Rock bulldozing his way into the MCU very soon.
Only last year, Johnson said he was ready to “rumble” with the Avengers, however, this seems like a more solid piece of evidence. What could this mean for The Rock’s tentative link to Warner Bros.’ Worlds of DC though? It’s unclear what’s going on with Black Adam after the character didn’t pop up in Shazam!. That being said, Johnson could still juggle both worlds.
Recently, James Gunn’s involvement in The Suicide Squad and return to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 proves that the rival studios can share. Elsewhere, Josh Brolin’s role as Cable in Fox’s Deadpool 2 and Thanos in the MCU is another step in the right direction for everyone getting on.
Fans have previously hyped the idea of The Rock joining the MCU. Fan castings have tipped him to play everyone from Taskmaster to Rhino. Two particularly popular choices could see him take on Spider-Man as the rugged Kraven the Hunter or play Ben Grimm, aka the Thing, in the inevitable Fantastic Four reboot. Considering the Thing is known as a walking boulder, it definitely fits with Johnson’s nickname of The Rock.
Elsewhere, Angelina Jolie was recently linked to a role in The Eternals, meaning The Rock would be in A-list company. Whatever is coming (or not), keep and eye out for what’s next. Hey Marvel, can you smell what The Rock’s cooking?
