Disney Reveals More Zootopia Movies Are On The Way

Judy Hopps is back on the beat.

Prepare to reunite the wild bunch. Disney is apparently working on two more Zootopia movies. Raking in the big bucks for the House of Mouse, 2016’s Zootopia has grossed over $1 billion at the box office and is only beaten by Frozen in terms of money.

The animated buddy cop movie followed the high-spirited Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) as she unwillingly teamed up with the slippery Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman) to save the city from an underground conspiracy of predators vs prey.

Also starring the likes of Idris Elba, Octavia Spencer, J.K. Simmons, and Bonnie Hunt, Zootopia is exactly the kind of charming movie we’ve come to expect from Disney.

It was always expected that we’d return to Zootopia at some point, but now it looks like we’ll be packing our cases twice. There’s no news on a possible storyline for either movie, but expect more crime-busting antics from Judy and the rest of the Zootopia Police Department.

Speaking at a publicity event (via Blog Mickey), voice actor Tommy Lister confirmed, “I can tell you for sure I’m doing another Zootopia with Disney. We’re doing three of them.” Known for voicing the pint-sized Finnick, Lister revealed why there’s plenty more to come from Zootopia.

“There were 3 Madagascars. We’re gonna replace that,” he continued. “We’re the biggest film that Disney is producing. The last one was $240 million. This one I’m hearing will be $300 million. That’s what they spent on the budget, not the advertising.”

Despite Zootopia‘s runaway success, it’s a standalone within the world of Disney. While there are only plans for a Zootopia-themed park at Disney Shanghai at the moment, a trilogy of movies would surely spawn a bigger franchise around the globe.

Directors Byron Howard and Rich Moore had previously said they’d be open to the idea of more movies or a spin-off, but it sounds like an even bigger animal kingdom is heading our way.

Although it’s important to note that Disney hasn’t made the announcement official (yet), the family-friendly studio has two untitled films slated for November 2020 and 2021.

Could one of these slots be filled by Zootopia 2? With the potential for two more movies, Judy Hopps had better hop to it!
