The Chris Pratt and Ellen Page saga continues as the Guardians of the Galaxy star comes out to defend himself over claims that he’s part of an anti-LGBTQ+ church.
Page recently took to social media and called Pratt out for being allied with an “infamously anti-LGBTQ” Church. In a series of posts on her Twitter, the X-Men actor questioned Pratt’s standing in the community and how he could be sending the wrong message through his faith.
She continued, “If you are a famous actor and you belong to an organization that hates a certain group of people, don’t be surprised if someone simply wonders why it’s not addressed.” The 31-year-old concluded, “Being anti-LGBTQ is wrong, there aren’t two sides. The damage it causes is severe. Full stop. Sending love to all.”
Posting on Instagram, Pratt slammed Page’s claims and said “nothing could be further from the truth.” The 39-year-old confirmed, “I go to a church that opens their doors to absolutely everyone.” He went on to reference his recent divorce from Anna Faris and how his faith had helped him through.
He continued. “Despite what the Bible says about divorce my church community was there for me every step of the way, never judging, just gracefully accompanying me on my walk.”
Addressing the allegations of an anti-LGBTQ+ church, Pratt told his followers, “They helped me tremendously offering love and support. It is what I have seen them do for others on countless occasions regardless of sexual orientation, race or gender.”
Everything kicked off when The Late Show with Stephen Colbert revealed that Pratt would be talking about his “spiritual side” on the show. Seeing this, Page called for Pratt to defend his church and take note of her claims.
Whatever your views or religion, Pratt is clear in his defence and wants to debunk rumours that he is associated with an anti-LGBTQ+ church.
Page is famously married to Canadian dancer Emma Portner and is a strong advocate of LGBTQ+ rights, however, she’s not letting the Pratt issue go. Faith continues to be important to Pratt as was spotted leaving his church’s Sunday service in Los Angeles. Whether his response is enough for Page remains to be seen.
