Warning: Captain Marvel spoilers ahead
Despite that whole scandal about being trolled on Rotten Tomatoes, Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck’s Captain Marvel is proving to be a big hit for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
As well as putting the pieces in place for the upcoming Avengers: Endgame, does Captain Marvel also tease the arrival of a big Spider-Man character to the world’s highest-grossing franchise?
While it looks like Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is weaving a wide web of characters and stories based on the wall-crawling hero, Captain Marvel brilliantly teased the arrival of Spider-Woman.
For those who don’t know, Jessica Drew is the fan-favourite hero that was first introduced in 1977’s Marvel Spotlight #32. Although Drew doesn’t directly appear in Captain Marvel, the character Maria Rambeau nods to her existence in the MCU.
The scene involves Larson’s Carol Danvers visiting her former friend at home and reminiscing about their old days being pilots. Eagle-eyed fans noticed that Maria is wearing a t-shirt that appears to match Spider-Woman’s uniform.
Heading back to 2016, the Russo Brother’s set the ball rolling for Peter Parker’s integration into the MCU when Tom Holland swung into action for Captain America: Civil War. Although it was only a cameo of sorts, Jon Watts picked up the threads and gave Spidey his own superhero standalone with Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2017.
With Holland locked in for a multi-movie arc, fans can expect at least one more solo movie beyond this year’s Spider-Man: Far From Home. Whether Web-Head does battle with Kraven the Hunter, Doctor Octopus, Green Goblin, or the Sinister Six, you can bet there’ll be a few friendly faces to help him out.
We’ve already met Mary Jane Watson and heard hints of Miles Morales. All we need now are Gwen Stacy and Jessica Drew!
I’m going to second this. https://t.co/8SXkSM22le

As well as Spider-Woman being the de facto BFF of Captain Marvel, the timing couldn’t be better for Spider-Woman. Only recently, Schitt’s Creek star Emily Hampshire said she’d love to play Drew in the MCU.
We already know Sony has big plans for its expanding Venom Verse of villains, but here’s hoping the studio is willing to share Spider-Woman with the MCU. As Phase 4 is set to introduce a more diverse of heroes — alongside rumours of an all-female Avengers — Jessica Drew would definitely be a welcome addition to the fold.
