The ‘Stark’ reality that the end is nigh is really setting in as Avengers: Endgame just dropped a brand new trailer. Earth’s Mightiest Heroes are back (what’s left of them) to try and topple Thanos in the supersized superhero sequel.
With Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck’s Captain Marvel paving the way for Avengers: Endgame, the Russo Brothers are now free to bring Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to a close.
The Russos are still pretty cryptic, but at least there’s some actual action in this trailer. As well as the heartfelt return of Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, we get to see an enraged Nebula presumably charging as daddy dearest, Rocket teaming up with War Machine, and Tony Stark ‘still’ adrift in space.
Things are looking pretty bleak in a post-snap world as the original six Avengers (alongside new additions like Rocket Racoon and Ant-Man) adjust to life without their fallen friends. Thankfully, it looks like Black Panther and Spider-Man won’t be left as piles of dust in the wind for long.
In the new footage, the disbanded Avengers promise to do “whatever it takes” to defeat Thanos after he snapped half their friends (and the galaxy) out of existence. Opening with a Throwback Thursday to 2008’s Iron Man, the trailer reminds us how important Iron Man has been to crafting the MCU we’ve come to know and love.
There are also flashbacks for the likes of Chris Evans’ Captain America — alongside piling rumours he could die in Endgame. With narration from Hayley Atwell, there’s still a chance Cap gets a happy ending with Peggy Carter before the credits roll.
Joe and Anthony Russo are rounding off Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in style with an all-star cast that includes Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, and Chris Hemsworth. Joining the party after her MCU debut in Captain Marvel, Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers promises to be a key weapon in defeating the Mad Titan.
Although we get to see their snazzy new Quantum Realm suits, there’s still no sign of the ‘dusted’ heroes. That being said, we’re not buying they’ll be down for long. There’s plenty of Easter eggs and theories to pull from the trailer ahead of the movie’s May release. Either way, the movie event of the decade is inching closer.
