We know one man who definitely won’t be getting a Valentine’s card this year. French author Yann Moix made enemies left, right, and centre when he spectacularly claimed women over the age of 50 are “too old to date”.
We’re of the thinking that you’re never too old to date, just as this beautiful episode of First Dates reminded us. However, it could be time to sharpen your pitchforks ladies…Moix isn’t joking!
Despite being 50 himself, Moix told Marie Claire he’s “incapable” of loving a woman over the age of 50. Moix confessed, “I prefer younger women’s bodies, that’s all. End of.” I’m not one to judge, but you’re coming across as a bit of a creep here Yann.
Digging himself a deeper hole, the author continued, “The body of a 25-year-old woman is extraordinary. The body of a woman of 50 is not extraordinary at all.”
It didn’t take long for Moix’s comments to cause a stir online. Among his critics were TV personality Ulrika Jonnson (51), who didn’t hold back with what she thought about his ‘musings’. The Swedish presenter branded him a “misogynist, narcissist, small twerp”. Go on girl!
French comedian Marina Foïs joked that her upcoming 49th birthday means she only has “one year and 14 days” left to hop in the sack with Moix. Elsewhere, 52-year-old journalist Colombe Schneck shared (and then deleted) a picture of her backside and captioned it, “You don’t know what you’re missing”.
Moix’s comments went even further when he said he tends to only date Asian women: “It’s perhaps sad and reductive for the women I go out with but the Asian type is sufficiently rich, large and infinite for me not to be ashamed.”
Don’t worry though ladies, Moix is willing to make a compromise, so all is not lost. The award-winning author admitted that he might be able to love a 50-year-old women when he is 60 because they might ‘seem’ younger to him then.
It’s a confusing state of affairs, does Moix suggest that women over a certain age should just resign themselves to a lifetime on the shelf as all the older men scoop up the younger ladies? He’s discounting Hollywood stars like Sandra Bullock, Vanessa Williams, Demi Moore, Elle Macpherson and more — not that they’re particularly bothered.
Thankfully, some saw the positive side of Moix’s comments and said that women around the world were breathing a sigh of relief. If you’re currently 40 and fancy saving yourself for the next 10 years in hopes of bagging a bigot, I’m sure we can find Moix’s number for you.
