If you’re in the market for a new home and want to embrace your kinky side, a 50 Shades of Grey-themed house could be a sound investment. Anyone who’s watched Desperate Housewives will know there’s a darker side to suburban life that you probably don’t expect from Mr. and Mrs. Smith down the road.
On the market for a cool $750,000, this Philadelphia home is in the leafy backdrop of Maple Glen. It all looks very picturesque and a bit like the famous Home Alone house, however, hiding behind the bright red door is a fetish fantasy.
The four-bedroom (2.5 bathroom) house is beautifully decorated, featuring a pool table, its own gym, and sex swing. Yes, you read that right, a sex swing!
Realtor Melissa Leonard told 6 ABC, “It has a sexy twist to it that is not like any other home in suburban Philadelphia. In the basement is kind of, like what I call, ‘private sexual oasis.'”
While the idea of Mr. Grey smashing your basement in…in the basement is enough to get a niche market interested, the 50 Shades of Maple Glen isn’t a hit with everyone. Disgruntled neighbour Barry Katz told the site, “It’s not something I think anybody in this neighborhood would be happy about. It’s not for us – take it downtown, take it to Los Angeles or Hollywood or wherever, just not here.”
Leonard’s imaginative branding of the house is what’s caught the attention of the media. She continued, “I thought right away when I saw this house, that is the first thing that came to mind. I am like ’50 Shades of Grey’ the movie, the book and the suburban quietness of the hush, hush.” You can check out Melissa’s tour below.
The homeowner is remaining anonymous, and apparently, not all the attention he’s been getting has been positive. After the tragic death of his wife, he’s been renting the house out on Airbnb under the name “Maison XS- Just Be You”. Although it’s no longer available to rent, he was charging just $750 a night with a $250 cleaning fee — not bad considering the spills and stains you might get in the basement.
It might not be for everyone’s tastes, but there’s no denying the sex basement in 50 Shades of Maple Glen impeccably decorated, which is something that is lacking in so many sex basements these days.
